North Star Stables - Arabian Sport Horses & Welaras - is conveniently located just minutes north of the twin cities in Forest Lake & North Branch, MN. We offer horseback riding lessons, horse leasing, trail riding, adult and kid's activities throughout the year. Our goal is to offer a variety of opportunities to learn the fundamentals for becoming a confident rider with qualified instructors. Provide hands-on teaching encouraging riders to accomplish individual goals, build confidence and have fun while promoting all around safety, horse care, and horsemanship. We welcome all types of riding and provide instruction for several riding styles including, jumping, dressage, games, Western Pleasure, Hunt Seat or just trail riding. We encourage competition as a vehicle for individual improvement while emphasizing fun and team goals. At North Star we specialize in teaching children from ages 5+. Our horses are very experienced with kids and our staff is trained to match the right horse for a child's experience level. Promote a fun, safe and comfortable family environment. We offer trail riding, game night, adult riding night throughout the year......see more information . A note from the owner: My first experience with Welaras was at 12 years old. I was taking lessons at a local barn and the instructors son rode a beautiful grey pony. This grey pony was breath taking. He had a wonderful personality, strong mind and was very athletic. I soon learned he was half Arabian and half Welsh, a Welara. Welaras are known for their good movement and gentle temperament. They have great minds, are very patience, very athletic, and are dependable mounts that very versatile which makes a perfect kid's pony/horse. However, it wasn't until later in my life that I would become reintroduced to these wonderful horses. I began my horse career in 1988, when I purchased an Arabian Gelding, "Taj". He is a wonderful horse and has taught me so much. Arabian's have a false reputation for being spooky, flighty, and hard to deal with. However, Taj has shown me that this is not always true and has been my friend throughout the years. In 2002, I found "Tuxedo Man", a black Arabian Stallion. I bought him because of his personality and conformation. Years later, I was reintroduced Welaras. Today we breed some wonderful Welaras at North Star.
